It’s Good to Be Alive
It’s good to be alive, but it is also hard at times and scary. There is so much beauty and so much to love, but that means there is much vulnerable to destruction and much it will hurt to lose.
It is good to be alive, but it is also exhausting. There are so many uphill climbs, and the view at the top is sometimes disappointing. That’s when sleep becomes the best part of the day — a socially acceptable escape.
It is good to be alive, but it also takes a toll. Deferred dreams have a cost. There is a price to pay for loneliness and for love. Failure can bankrupt your hope. And some days it’s hard to find your own worth.
It is good to be alive, but it is also a litany of frustrations. Obstacles to joy lurk around every corner. Possibilities become regrets. Potential fails to deliver. And even some sure things can’t be counted on.
It is good to be alive, but it is also terrible. Watching as the innocent are hurt. Seeing greed and lust for power poison hearts. Knowing how good it could be if we just took hate out of the picture — extracted it from the conversation. Focused on real love. Because hate may not get the last word, but it still gets to say an awful lot.
But it is good to be alive. To see the sun shining through the leaves or reflecting on a pond. To hear the birds’ song or watch a child overtaken with giggles. To get a hug when you need it. To be seen. To be heard. To be loved.
It’s good to be alive.
